In this event, Yao Jiang will share his academic experience with the idea of Plant Humanities, which is first initiated by Dumbarton Oaks in 2018, articulating how this research approach cured his “plant blindness” and later guided his public practices to co-initiate a plant-humanities-oriented research and action group in China. By developing the phrase of “Plant Inhabitant 植物世民”, Yao and his colleagues have conducted a co-learning and co-writing online workshop, as well as several public talks and “Plant Walk(s)” currently over a small group of cities, including Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen. Named Plant South Salesroom 植南门市部, this infant and growing group aims to unveil, restore, and co-construct the kinship between humans and plants.
