SUMMARY:Spirituality and Poetry: Exploring the Wisdom of Rumi\, Hafiz\, and Process Theology
DESCRIPTION:Bethlehem Centre\, in collaboration with the Interfaith Center of Arkansas and the Cobb Institute\, is delighted to present a captivating eight-week online series: “Spirituality and Poetry: Exploring the Wisdom of Rumi\, Hafiz\, and Process Theology.”  \n\n\n\nLed by Sophia Said and Jay McDaniel\, this enriching series will delve into the connections between spirituality\, poetry\, and the transformative concepts of process theology. As a paradigm for thinking about spirituality\, we will use the “spiritual alphabet” of Spirituality and Practice: “A” is for attention\, “B” is for beauty\, “C” is for compassion\, etc. We invite you to join us for an hour each week as we embark on a reflective journey through the spiritual alphabet.  \n\n\n\nTogether\, we will explore the timeless verses of Rumi and Hafiz\, two poets who transcend religious boundaries and touch upon the universal essence of the human experience. Through their words\, we will uncover insights and inspirations that can enrich our spiritual lives\, fostering a deeper connection with ourselves\, others\, and the divine. \n\n\n\nIn addition\, the series will delve into the inclusive framework of process theology\, which embraces the ever-evolving nature of spirituality. By integrating the wisdom of the poets and the principles of process theology\, we will embark on a transformative exploration of spirituality\, inviting active participation in the ongoing co-creation of our world. \n\n\n\nThe sessions will take place over eight consecutive weeks\, providing ample time for reflection and integration between each gathering. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the facilitators\, ask questions\, and engage in interactive discussions. We aim to create a space where diverse perspectives can converge\, fostering a deep appreciation for the power of spirituality\, poetry\, and process theology. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more & register

SUMMARY:Interweavings: Remembering Our Ancestors: Honoring our Beloved Dead 2023
DESCRIPTION:The end of October is marked by many cultures as a sacred time when the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead becomes more porous. Gaelic or Celtic cultures celebrate Samhain and the Christian tradition has honored its dead on All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days. The wonderful animated film “Coco” honors the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead in exuberant color. Join Process & Faith for a special online Interweavings event\, sponsored by the Pagan Path\, that will be a service of remembrance for everyone who has lost or grieved a loved one. Participants may want to have a candle to light and/or to bring a photo of their loved one(s). \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:Interweavings: Called To Be Sensitive: Process-Relational Perspectives on Highly Sensitive People
DESCRIPTION:For followers of many religious traditions\, how we conduct our lives is central to our faith\, whether it’s following scriptural injunctions or emulating the way of Jesus. For those who embrace the process worldview\, Lee McAuliffe Rambo writes\, “conduct has even greater importance: We understand ourselves to embody God\, contributing directly to the experience of other living creatures and to God Herself.” \n\n\n\nLike other progressives\, process people have demonstrated an eagerness to participate in large-scale movements for racial justice\, feminism\, and LGBTQ rights. Yet\, in our routine\, personal interactions\, we often fail to represent the God we know as the eminently sensitive one\, “the fellow-sufferer who understands.” While this undoubtedly hurts everyone\, it is particularly damaging to a newly identified cohort: the 20 percent of Westerners known as “highly sensitive people (HSPs).”  \n\n\n\nIt also constitutes a tragic loss: HSPs often are naturally spiritual and empathetic. But\, in an effort to protect themselves\, they frequently shun religious organizations.  \n\n\n\nIn this Interweavings event from Process & Faith\, Lee McAuliffe Rambo will describe highly sensitive people\, their characteristics\, and gifts\, and she will recount her own experiences “toughing it out” in seminary\, the church\, and the workplace. An opportunity for positive and problem-centered discussion will follow the presentation. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:Whitehead & Teilhard: Convergences\, Divergences\, and Integration
DESCRIPTION:The respective work of Alfred North Whitehead (1861-1947) and Pierre Teilhard De Chardin (1881-1955) continue to inspire distinctive trajectories in modern process philosophy and theology. Although contemporaries for a time\, both men were unable to benefit from each other’s vast visions of reality. Yet a shared indebtedness to Bergson’s temporal metaphysics and a commitment to incorporate new advances of the sciences—evolutionary biology and quantum and relativity theory in particular—would stimulate deeply resonant vectors in their thought. Nevertheless\, Whitehead and Teilhard continue to be studied largely independent of each other’s contributions. The time has come to fill this scholarly lacuna with deliberate efforts aimed at creative mutual transformation. What results when Whitehead and Teilhard meet? What do they each offer the other such that a mutual deepening might take place? This conference draws together Whitehead and Teilhard scholars to advance the possibilities and relevance of process philosophy and theology through an integrative encounter between these two foundational figures. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more & Get tickets

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Spirituality\, Psychedelics\, and Process Thought
DESCRIPTION:Drawing from his own deeply moving personal journey through the early death of his father and his quest for sobriety\, in this event\, John Buchanan\, Ph.D. will introduce topics from his 2022 book\, Processing Reality: Finding Meaning in Death\, Psychedelics\, and Sobriety. He’ll highlight why process thought and transpersonal psychology are especially useful for understanding how psychedelics (and nonordinary states more generally) provide a mode of access to the transpersonal realm – what people may refer to as the Sacred or Divine Reality. He’ll explore how and why these experiences may reveal truthful insights into the nature of the universe and its spiritual dimensions along with the ways in which Alfred North Whitehead’s metaphysics and psychiatrist Stanislav Grof’s mapping of exceptional experience offer a powerful interpretive lens through which to view these phenomena. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:The Sacred as a Force of Healing and Evolution: Meditation\, Taoism\, & Confucianism from the Perspective of Process Philosophy
DESCRIPTION:Taoism and Confucianism\, by contrast to many other spiritual traditions\, are based on a monistic cosmology. That is\, all our experiences can be explained from the functioning of Tao. Tao\, as a process of evolution\, is unspeakable\, but its functioning and force can be experienced and manifested through the practice of meditation\, which mediates between the mind/soul and the matter/body\, and forges them into an organic process of evolution.  \n\n\n\nThe functioning of Tao can be experienced as a force of healing and evolution. Therefore it is profoundly relevant for each individual human being\, especially when we face the challenge of diseases\, old age\, trauma\, depression and all other mental and physical problems. This is closely related to the phenomenon of Qi\, which is known as life energy and is believed to be the manifestation of Tao in Taoism and Confucianism.  \n\n\n\nDr. Zhenbao Jin has healed himself from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and some other chronic health problems including atrophic gastritis\, prostatitis and ankylosing spondylitis through the practice of meditation and his research on Taoism\, Confucianism\, Buddhism\, psychology\, neuroscience\, anthroposophy and philosophy\, especially process philosophy\, in the past 10 years\, without using any medicine or standard therapy. He finds that Taoism and Confucianism\, as non-dualistic cosmology\, make no absolute distinction between the mind/soul and the matter/body\, as both are by essence different manifestation of one and the same process of Tao. All human beings\, as the embodiment of the process of Tao\, accordingly\, can become conscious of the functioning of Tao through the practice of meditation and benefit from its force of healing and evolution.   \n\n\n\nThe purpose of this online workshop is three-fold: \n\n\n\n\nTo test the effect of meditation for healing of chronic diseases and other mental and physical problems\, including cancer\, and the possibility of a philosophy of healing and medicine; \n\n\n\nTo clarify the necessity of integration of Taoism\, Confucianism and process philosophy to develop a non-dualistic cosmology which is both speculative and empirical; \n\n\n\nTo enhance the dialogue between different spiritual traditions and between spirituality and science through the mediation of process philosophy as speculative metaphysics. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Zhenbao Jin will share his experience relating to sitting meditation\, jogging meditation and other forms of meditation and his understandings of such experience from the perspective Taoism\, Confucianism and process philosophy. He will guide the practice of meditation at each session and the sharing and discussion of the participants of their respective experience after each session of practice. Dr. Jin’s approach of meditation is practiced in principle in sitting on a chair\, instead of sitting in lotus position. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will be held via zoom in 10 sessions\, once per week\, at 2:30 pm PDT\, Thursdays\, each session for one and a half hour\, and start on August 24th.  \n\n\n\nThere will be no more than 8 participants so that in-depth discussion is possible. It’s expected that the participants will be open to adopt the approach of meditation as introduced by Dr. Jin or at least try to integrate it into their own practice in daily life and share their experience at the workshop. Anyone who is interested is required to send a brief self-introduction to Dr. Zhenbao Jin at jinzhenbao@hotmail.com by August 19th. The self-introduction should include one’s name\, gender\, age\, profession\, general health condition\, purpose of participation and contact information including email address and mobile number. A reply from Dr. Zhenbao Jin will be given no later than August 22nd\, notifying whether participation is confirmed or not.  \n\n\n\nPlease note that the workshop will be free of charge and be held in the form of an academic seminar. By participating in this workshop\, all participants agree to give a feedback to Dr. Zhenbao Jin summarizing their experience and findings gained through the practice of meditation as introduced by Dr. Jin and relating discussions. The sharing and reports of all participants on their experience of meditation and its effect upon their health condition have important academic significance. Dr. Zhenbao Jin will have the sole right to publish the transcript of the recordings of the workshop in English and in Chinese in any country. The English transcript of the recordings and all relating materials for publication will be provided to each participant for their confirmation and revision before it’s placed for publication. The participants can decide whether to be mentioned anonymously.  \n\n\n\nMore information can be found at: Secular as Sacred: Taoism & Confucianism from the Perspective of Process Philosophy | Process Pop-Up – YouTube \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEmail Dr. Jin to Register

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Reviving Christian Process Theology
DESCRIPTION:Does Christian process theology need revival and renewal? How can process theology be a transformational resource for mainline Christians\, spiritual seekers\, and evangelicals in search of a truly loving and life-affirming theology? Bruce Epperly sees ‘revival’ as the emergence of a deep and passionate spirituality that changes us and the world\, grounded in reclaiming Jesus as a companion\, challenger\, and guide. \n\n\n\nIn this Pop-Up\, Dr. Epperly will discuss why Christian process theology needs to open to creative transformation so that it can transform the spiritual landscape of our times. Believing there is good news of Jesus beyond the academy\, Epperly will show how Christian process theology must join its theological vision with spiritual practices of healing and wholeness\, integration of contemplation and action\, and a rediscovery of an affirmative vision of Jesus. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:13th International Whitehead Conference: Whitehead and the History of Philosophy
DESCRIPTION:Alfred North Whitehead developed his process philosophy with an explicit reliance on the value of the history of philosophy. While the trend of recent years has often suggested that different approaches to philosophical problems can be adequately categorized\, using the dichotomy of purely systematic or purely historical interests\, Whitehead offers an equally historically informed and systematically intended perspective. \n\n\n\nThis conference is dedicated to the philosophical-historical dimension in Whitehead’s oeuvre on the one hand and to its systematic relevance for numerous areas of research on the other hand. \n\n\n\nInterested scholars are cordially invited to submit an abstract of no more than 500 words. \n\n\n\nOrganized by Deutsche Whitehead Gesellschaft & Munich School of Philosophy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore info

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: The Secular as Sacred: Taoism and Confucianism from the Perspective of Process Philosophy
DESCRIPTION:The cultural tradition of China is notorious for its secularism. There is no belief in God\, no special emphasis upon spirituality\, no expectation of eternal salvation. All the teachings of Taoism and Confucianism seem to be nothing more than ethical admonition focusing on secular benefits. Nevertheless\, China’s civilization has persisted for more than 3000 years and seems even more compelling in our time.   \n\n\n\nIn this event\, Dr. Zhenbao Jin wishes to decode the secrets of Taoism and Confucianism from the perspective of his special experience of healing himself from lymphoma cancer and other chronic health problems\, as well as his related research in the past 10 years. He will discuss the cosmology of Taoism and Confucianism from the perspective of process philosophy and meditation as the way to embody such a cosmology. He will show how Taoism and Confucianism are more a developing scholarship than a close system of belief\, due to their non-dualistic cosmology. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:Living Earth Youth Dialogues: Post-Colonial Social Ecology
DESCRIPTION:In this event\, Micah Huang will share ideas of social ecology\, particularly with regard to the post-colonial reclamation of history and reframing of the international social order. Micah believes This is particularly important with regard to the relationship between the US and China\, in which the old storyline of colonization and resistance\, accompanied by mutually hostile rhetoric\, is badly in need of an update which conceives of the world as an ecosystem rather than a winner-take-all contest. He will also address how his work using music and media to revisit and reframe histories and intercultural dynamics aims to contribute to the establishment of this new paradigm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more & RSVP
