SUMMARY:Work-in-Process Seminar | Veronika Krajíčková: Reading Modernism Differently via Whitehead’s Metaphysics of Experience\, Feeling and Value
DESCRIPTION:The Work-In-Process seminar series aims to provide a space for regular exchange between researchers working on the philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead. As a hybrid between a seminar and a community event for all those working in process thought\, researchers will be given the informal opportunity to present and discuss their work in progress\, to receive input and use this space to build collaborations.  \n\n\n\nThe Work-In-Process series is hosted by the European Society for Process Thought and will take place online every two weeks\, alternating between Mondays and Fridays. \n\n\n\nThe seminar is completely free and we welcome everyone regardless of their academic position. If you want to present your own work or simply attend the seminar\, please get in touch with espt@milanstuermer.com to register. \n\n\n\nIn her talk\, Veronika Krajíčková is going to discuss her project focussing on reading (literary) modernism via the metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead\, which presents this movement in different\, and hopefully more bright and constructive light. Analysing modernist texts with the aid of Whitehead’s concepts of experience\, feeling\, value and concern uproots the “detached”\, individualist and reality-disconnected vibe that is traditionally associated with high modernism. Moreover\, Whitehead’s theory of prehension applied to the process of reading permits more emotionally responsive and situated engagement with a text\, which anticipates the affective turn in literary criticism long dominated by disinterested close reading and “hermeneutics of suspicion” (Rita Felski). \n\n\n\n\nLearn more

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: A Beautiful Community & Its Economic Adventure
DESCRIPTION:If capitalism doesn’t work for people and the environment\, what does work? Capital itself may not be the problem\, but only in the way it is regulated. In this process pop-up a different approach to capital\, following Herman Daly\, John Cobb\, and several related thinkers\, is played out in the practical workings of an imaginary community. Is such a community feasible\, and who would want to become a member? Kent Myers will explore these questions and present a new economic vision for ecological civilization. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Cobb Institute

SUMMARY:Living Earth Youth Dialogues: Becoming Infinite: A Manifesto for a Cosmic Eco-Civilization
DESCRIPTION:In this event\, Céleste M.E. Hogan will share their ideas about the holistic connections between fundamental physics (both quantum and cosmic)\, philosophy\, and consciousness\, and the consequent urgent need for a planetary eco-social revolution. The story of the universe\, from the “Big Bang”\, 13.8 billion years ago\, until now\, is a story of unity and diversity\, of evolution and complexification\, of process and reality. Modern cosmology is also coming to the realization\, however\, that the “Bing Bang” was not the beginning\, and that there are levels of reality beyond space and time\, energy and matter – everything\, at every level of reality\, is connected in a holistic\, rhizomic\, trans-spatiotemporal relational network of processes\, which continue to complexify and emerge into ever more amazing\, unique\, and beautiful forms. This includes everything from fundamental particles to cells to societies and even whole planetary civilizations. It is now imperative that we become aware of\, and begin to live in greater harmony with\, these emergent\, self-organizing\, ecological dynamics\, if we are to stave off the imminent collapse of the biosphere and the consequent collapse of human civilization. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more & RSVP

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: The Not-Yet God and the Relational Whole
DESCRIPTION:The new science\, especially quantum physics\, has changed our understanding of space\, time and matter; hence it raises new questions on the meaning of God. Is God outside space and time? Or is God integral to the unfolding of the universe? If consciousness is fundamental to matter\, is consciousness fundamental to the reality of God as well? We will discuss these questions and more as we explore the essential role of consciousness in relation to the religious experience of God. \n\n\n\nWe’ll discuss Ilia’s latest book\, The Not-Yet God: Carl Jung\, Teilhard de Chardin\, and the Relational Whole. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

DESCRIPTION:For 4 months\, you are invited to explore this phenomenon together with like-minded\, courageous soul friends to attentively grow the ember into a flame that will spark the divine light of consciousness in all of us and birth a new humanity capable of thriving in the emerging new world.  \n\n\n\nBáyò Akómoláfé is a teacher\, public intellectual\, author and facilitator. He is globally recognised for his poetic\, unconventional\, counterintuitive\, and indigenous take on global crisis\, civic action and social change. As Executive Director of The Emergence Network\, Báyò inspires a diffractive network of sharing – a slowing down\, an ethics of entanglement\, an activism of inquiry\, a ‘politics of surprise’…one that does not treat the crises of our times as exterior to ‘us’ or the ‘solutions’ that conventional activism offers as separate from the problems we seek to nullify. Báyò is host of the online writing course\, We will dance with Mountains\, author of We will tell our own story! and These Wilds Beyond our Fences \n\n\n\nCharles Eisenstein is a speaker and writer focusing on themes of human culture and identity. SUMMARY:Interweavings: A Season of Darkness and Light 2023
DESCRIPTION:Cosmologically\, this period of late fall marks the increase in hours of darkness until the winter solstice when the hours of light begin to make a return. Many religions have major holidays during this period. For some\, the period of darkness is not feared but is celebrated as a time of rest and renewal or of waiting in a kind of pregnant pause. Most celebrate the increase in light and see this turning of the season as the welcome return of the energies of rebirth and growth. \n\n\n\nIn this event\, we’ll introduce some of the major holidays in late fall and early winter\, noting their significance in each tradition. We’ll look at Diwali\, Advent\, Hanukkah\, St. Lucia Day\, Winter Solstice\, Christmas\, Epiphany\, Kwanzaa\, New Year’s Eve\, and Lunar New Year. \n\n\n\nCome prepared to share a brief memory of a favorite winter holiday food or tradition from your own background! \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:Webinar: East and West Dialogue on Ecological Civilization
DESCRIPTION:Many people around the world\, including civil society\, scientists\, youth\, and policymakers are concerned about the future of our common home and the choices we must make today to ensure that we change our course and stop contributing to our current planetary crises. To do this\, all decision-makers\, including governments\, the private sector\, and individuals must come together to achieve our global goals for sustainability\, justice and peace\, guided by common values. Through this intercultural dialogue\, we will explore what it means to work towards an ecological civilization and what we can learn from the knowledge we have and what we have accomplished so far.   \n\n\n\nIn this webinar Earth Charter will continue the conversation\, started in the 2020 webinar series on Ecological Civilization\, with the following questions:   \n\n\n\n\nWhat is an Ecological Civilization? \n\n\n\nWhat are the possible paths and driving forces to get there? \n\n\n\nWhat are some good examples paving the way towards this vision? \n\n\n\n\nSpeakers \n\n\n\nChen XiaInstitute of PhilosophyChinese Academy of Social Sciences (P.R. SUMMARY:Spirituality and Poetry: Exploring the Wisdom of Rumi\, Hafiz\, and Process Theology
DESCRIPTION:Bethlehem Centre\, in collaboration with the Interfaith Center of Arkansas and the Cobb Institute\, is delighted to present a captivating eight-week online series: “Spirituality and Poetry: Exploring the Wisdom of Rumi\, Hafiz\, and Process Theology.”  \n\n\n\nLed by Sophia Said and Jay McDaniel\, this enriching series will delve into the connections between spirituality\, poetry\, and the transformative concepts of process theology. As a paradigm for thinking about spirituality\, we will use the “spiritual alphabet” of Spirituality and Practice: “A” is for attention\, “B” is for beauty\, “C” is for compassion\, etc. We invite you to join us for an hour each week as we embark on a reflective journey through the spiritual alphabet.  \n\n\n\nTogether\, we will explore the timeless verses of Rumi and Hafiz\, two poets who transcend religious boundaries and touch upon the universal essence of the human experience. Through their words\, we will uncover insights and inspirations that can enrich our spiritual lives\, fostering a deeper connection with ourselves\, others\, and the divine. \n\n\n\nIn addition\, the series will delve into the inclusive framework of process theology\, which embraces the ever-evolving nature of spirituality. By integrating the wisdom of the poets and the principles of process theology\, we will embark on a transformative exploration of spirituality\, inviting active participation in the ongoing co-creation of our world. \n\n\n\nThe sessions will take place over eight consecutive weeks\, providing ample time for reflection and integration between each gathering. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the facilitators\, ask questions\, and engage in interactive discussions. We aim to create a space where diverse perspectives can converge\, fostering a deep appreciation for the power of spirituality\, poetry\, and process theology. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more & register

SUMMARY:Interweavings: Remembering Our Ancestors: Honoring our Beloved Dead 2023
DESCRIPTION:The end of October is marked by many cultures as a sacred time when the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead becomes more porous. Gaelic or Celtic cultures celebrate Samhain and the Christian tradition has honored its dead on All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days. The wonderful animated film “Coco” honors the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead in exuberant color. Join Process & Faith for a special online Interweavings event\, sponsored by the Pagan Path\, that will be a service of remembrance for everyone who has lost or grieved a loved one. Participants may want to have a candle to light and/or to bring a photo of their loved one(s). \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:Interweavings: Called To Be Sensitive: Process-Relational Perspectives on Highly Sensitive People
DESCRIPTION:For followers of many religious traditions\, how we conduct our lives is central to our faith\, whether it’s following scriptural injunctions or emulating the way of Jesus. For those who embrace the process worldview\, Lee McAuliffe Rambo writes\, “conduct has even greater importance: We understand ourselves to embody God\, contributing directly to the experience of other living creatures and to God Herself.” \n\n\n\nLike other progressives\, process people have demonstrated an eagerness to participate in large-scale movements for racial justice\, feminism\, and LGBTQ rights. Yet\, in our routine\, personal interactions\, we often fail to represent the God we know as the eminently sensitive one\, “the fellow-sufferer who understands.” While this undoubtedly hurts everyone\, it is particularly damaging to a newly identified cohort: the 20 percent of Westerners known as “highly sensitive people (HSPs).”  \n\n\n\nIt also constitutes a tragic loss: HSPs often are naturally spiritual and empathetic. But\, in an effort to protect themselves\, they frequently shun religious organizations.  \n\n\n\nIn this Interweavings event from Process & Faith\, Lee McAuliffe Rambo will describe highly sensitive people\, their characteristics\, and gifts\, and she will recount her own experiences “toughing it out” in seminary\, the church\, and the workplace. An opportunity for positive and problem-centered discussion will follow the presentation. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith
