SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: God Will be All in All
DESCRIPTION:In her book\, God Will be All in All: Theology Through the Lens of Incarnation\, Anna Case-Winters re-envisions central affirmations and questions of Christian theology by looking through the lens of incarnation—making incarnation a presupposition rather than a conclusion.  Her process-panentheist approach takes a broad view of incarnation proposing that God is already in all things\, and all things are in God.  Through this lens\, the ancient Christological controversies around how Jesus can be “truly God and truly human… two natures in one person” can be unraveled.  If we see that God is already in all things\, and if we shift from “substance thinking” to dynamic relational thinking\, there is no contradiction here. The trinitarian vision of God and our understanding of how God acts in the world are also illumined by this approach. \n\n\n\nIn this event\, Dr. Case-Winters will explore these themes as well as the provoking questions that  arise with our affirmation that “God is with us.” How can we believe “God is with us” when there is so much suffering and evil in the world?  When we make this affirmation what do we mean by “us”?  Do we mean “just us Christians”? Is the claim that “God was in Christ” automatically exclusivist—as if God is nowhere else?  Does “us” even mean “only us human beings”? What about divine presence in the larger natural world?  Widening our view still further\, what if we who are on planet earth\, are not alone in the cosmos?  Is God with others out there\, too?  What is the depth and scope of incarnation?  How wide is the divine embrace? \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:God After Deconstruction - Drew University
DESCRIPTION:At this live event\, Tripp Fuller and Thomas Jay Oord describe the realities and challenges of deconstruction. \n\n\n\nMany are walking away from church and/or God… for good reasons. The old ways of thinking make little sense. The hurt is real. \n\n\n\nThis conference proposes better ways to think about God. A sensible view oriented around open and relational theology is possible after we deconstruct the irrational and harmful views so many are offered. \n\n\n\nFuller and Oord are joined by thought leaders Catherine Keller\, John Thatamanil\, Bruce Epperly\, Alexis Lillie\, and others to explore deconstruction and the open\, relational\, and process God. The event begins at 7 pm on Friday and concludes at 5 pm on Saturday\, with an invitation to an informal meal thereafter. \n\n\n\nThis event is sponsored by the Center for Open and Relational Theology and Homebrewed Christianity and hosted by the theological school at Drew University. Joining these are podcast cosponsors Radical Love Live (Mark Dilcom and Kelly Wilson)\, Rethinking Faith (Josh Patterson)\, War Machine (Matt Baker and Justin Pearl)\, and The New Evangelicals (Tim Whitaker). \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more & Get tickets!

SUMMARY:Muhammad Iqbal: The Relevance of a Legacy
DESCRIPTION:The intellectual legacy of the Pakistani philosopher Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938) stands as a landmark in modern Islamic thought. His philosophico-theological magnum opus The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam (1930) has been widely studied and referred to\, and has been translated and re-translated into many languages until now. \n\n\n\nThis Symposium aims at bringing together a number of junior and senior scholars from different regions and research institutions worldwide to discuss Iqbal’s legacy\, its relevance to current issues in philosophic theology. The symposium will kick off first as an online event\, to take place on Friday-Saturday 09-10 February 2023. A physical sequel to the event will follow in due time. \n\n\n\nMuhammad Iqbal sought to rethink the Islamic tradition differently. In the light of the modern moment\, he tried to engage with modern questions philosophically and politically. Standing firm in his own Islamic tradition and relying on the Qur’an\, besides being well-versed in Western philosophical thought\, Iqbal introduces a novel metaphysics that he wished could serve as the foundation for a new Islamic philosophico-theological reading\, new but at the same time rooted in his modern understanding of the Qur’an and parts of the past intellectual tradition. This reading\, if re-examined and pushed further by new scholars\, may help in addressing modern questions in theory and practice that not only Muslims but modern human beings at large are posing. \n\n\n\nThe aim of this symposium is thus to bring together junior and senior Iqbal scholars in order to revisit his intellectual legacy and investigate the potentials in his thought for new philosophies and theologies from an Islamic perspective and in conversation with other non-Islamic intellectual traditions. \n\n\n\nTHEMES \n\n\n\n\nPhilosophy of religion in modern Islamic thought\n\n\n\nHuman free will and the infallible divine fore-knowledge\n\n\n\nThe problem of evil\n\n\n\nPluralism and religious truth claims\n\n\n\nHuman liberty\, human rights\, and the rights of nature\n\n\n\nProcess theology\, existential theology\, and ecotheology\n\n\n\nTime\, space\, and the challenge of artificial intelligence\n\n\n\n\nTIME FRAME \n\n\n\n\nAbstract submission & short bio: 15 September 2023\n\n\n\nNotification of the accepted abstracts: 16 October 2023\n\n\n\nAnnouncement of the final programme: 16 November 2023\n\n\n\n\nCONVENERS \n\n\n\n\nSaida MirsadriUniversity of Paderborn (Germany)University of ZürichUniversity of Religions and Denominations (Qom)\n\n\n\nMohammad HashasLuiss University of RomeLeibniz-ZMO (Berlin)\n\n\n\nFarhan ShahUniversity of OsloCenter for Process Studies (USA)\n\n\n\n\nCONFIRMED SPEAKERS \n\n\n\n\nFateh Muhammad MalikIqbal Chair\,Allama Iqbal Open University\, Islamabad\n\n\n\nMustafa RuzgarCalifornia State University\n\n\n\nSevcan ÖztürkSocial SciencesUniversity of Ankara\n\n\n\nAdis DuderijaGriffith University\n\n\n\n\nFor free registration and online attendance contact: fasihiramandi@gmail.com \n\n\n\nFor further information and to submit proposals contact: mirsadri@mail.uni-paderborn.de

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Yoga\, Experience\, and the Vagus Nerve
DESCRIPTION:Yoga\, a spiritual practice from the Hindu tradition\, provides gentle and consistent contributions to the practitioner’s wellbeing. This conversation will introduce participants to recent research on the Vagus Nerve\, Pranayama Breathing practices and Asanas\, or flows of movement.  In addition\, Whitehead’s notion of “experience all the way down” is particularly relevant for vagus nerve research.  \n\n\n\nPranayama or breath is at the heart of yogic strength and somatic or body awareness.  In this event\, we’ll look at ways in which process thought on the primordial and consequent natures of God can be deeply applied through pranayama and its effect on various bodily regions. Leslie King will introduce simple chair yoga movements or asanas and each participant will learn more about their range of movement and how yogic practices best make sense for the body. \n\n\n\nStudents will be invited to join a follow-up Learning Circle to explore the practices even more deeply. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:East and West Dialogue on Ecological Civilizations
DESCRIPTION:Many people around the world\, including civil society\, scientists\, youth\, and policymakers are concerned about the future of our common home and the choices we must make today to ensure that we change our course and stop contributing to our current planetary crises. To do this\, all decision-makers\, including governments\, the private sector\, and individuals must come together to achieve our global goals for sustainability\, justice and peace\, guided by common values. Through this intercultural dialogue\, we will explore what it means to work towards an ecological civilization and what we can learn from the knowledge we have and what we have accomplished so far.   \n\n\n\nThis webinar is the second one in a webinar series leading up to the 2024 Earth Charter Conference: Reimagining Education for Ecological Civilizations.  \n\n\n\nIn this webinar we will continue the conversation started in November 2023\, with the panel tackling the following questions:   \n\n\n\n\nWhat does an Ecological Civilization look like? \n\n\n\nWhat are some good examples paving the way towards this vision and how can we scale up these efforts? \n\n\n\nWhat are some additional paths and driving forces to building these just\, sustainable and peaceful societies? \n\n\n\n\nSpeakers \n\n\n\nMary Evelyn TuckerYale Forum on Religion and Ecology \n\n\n\nJinfeng ZhouChina Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation \n\n\n\nZhihe WangCenter for Process Studies China ProjectFormer member of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences \n\n\n\nJulia KimGross National Happiness Centre Bhuta \n\n\n\nModeratorsAmanda Bennett and Sifan Jiang\, Earth Charter International  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more & Register

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Anthropogenic Climate Change is Threatening Civilization and Our Common Home
DESCRIPTION:In the face of the threat of civilizational and planetary destruction caused by anthropogenic climate change\, too many world leaders and peoples are failing to respond adequately. Evaggelos Vallianatos believes that Pope Francis is right in saying that the world is collapsing. In this pop-up\, he will offer an introduction to the history and dangers of climate change\, and argue that we need to heed the call of Pope Francis to organize a movement of resistance and change to the ceaseless use of fossil fuels causing global warming. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Cobb Institute

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: Process\, Pluralism\, and Respecting Diverse Religious Ultimates
DESCRIPTION:Ultimate reality is often characterized in terms of what are thought to be a variety of incompatible concepts\, like God\, Dao\, Brahman\, śūnyatā\, etc. In his new book\, Religious Pluralism: Towards a Comparative Metaphysics of Religion\, Matthew S. LoPresti suggests that shifting to a process understanding of the world allows us to engage multiple religious ultimates alongside diverse religious practices and programs for salvation. \n\n\n\nIn this event\, LoPresti will share key ideas from his book to describe a “meta-theology” of world religions\, arguing that both Western and non-Western traditions are helpful. He’ll draw from John B. Cobb’s Whiteheadian “deep religious pluralism” as well as South Asian philosophy\, Western analytic philosophy\, and the writings of Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI). \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

If you want to present your own work or simply attend the seminar\, please get in touch with espt@milanstuermer.com to register. \n\n\n\nIn her talk\, Veronika Krajíčková is going to discuss her project focussing on reading (literary) modernism via the metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead\, which presents this movement in different\, and hopefully more bright and constructive light. Analysing modernist texts with the aid of Whitehead’s concepts of experience\, feeling\, value and concern uproots the “detached”\, individualist and reality-disconnected vibe that is traditionally associated with high modernism. Moreover\, Whitehead’s theory of prehension applied to the process of reading permits more emotionally responsive and situated engagement with a text\, which anticipates the affective turn in literary criticism long dominated by disinterested close reading and “hermeneutics of suspicion” (Rita Felski). \n\n\n\n\nLearn more

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: A Beautiful Community & Its Economic Adventure
DESCRIPTION:If capitalism doesn’t work for people and the environment\, what does work? Capital itself may not be the problem\, but only in the way it is regulated. In this process pop-up a different approach to capital\, following Herman Daly\, John Cobb\, and several related thinkers\, is played out in the practical workings of an imaginary community. Is such a community feasible\, and who would want to become a member? Kent Myers will explore these questions and present a new economic vision for ecological civilization. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Cobb Institute

SUMMARY:Living Earth Youth Dialogues: Becoming Infinite: A Manifesto for a Cosmic Eco-Civilization
DESCRIPTION:In this event\, Céleste M.E. Hogan will share their ideas about the holistic connections between fundamental physics (both quantum and cosmic)\, philosophy\, and consciousness\, and the consequent urgent need for a planetary eco-social revolution. The story of the universe\, from the “Big Bang”\, 13.8 billion years ago\, until now\, is a story of unity and diversity\, of evolution and complexification\, of process and reality. Modern cosmology is also coming to the realization\, however\, that the “Bing Bang” was not the beginning\, and that there are levels of reality beyond space and time\, energy and matter – everything\, at every level of reality\, is connected in a holistic\, rhizomic\, trans-spatiotemporal relational network of processes\, which continue to complexify and emerge into ever more amazing\, unique\, and beautiful forms. This includes everything from fundamental particles to cells to societies and even whole planetary civilizations. It is now imperative that we become aware of\, and begin to live in greater harmony with\, these emergent\, self-organizing\, ecological dynamics\, if we are to stave off the imminent collapse of the biosphere and the consequent collapse of human civilization. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more & RSVP

SUMMARY:Process Pop-Up: The Not-Yet God and the Relational Whole
DESCRIPTION:The new science\, especially quantum physics\, has changed our understanding of space\, time and matter; hence it raises new questions on the meaning of God. Is God outside space and time? Or is God integral to the unfolding of the universe? If consciousness is fundamental to matter\, is consciousness fundamental to the reality of God as well? We will discuss these questions and more as we explore the essential role of consciousness in relation to the religious experience of God. \n\n\n\nWe’ll discuss Ilia’s latest book\, The Not-Yet God: Carl Jung\, Teilhard de Chardin\, and the Relational Whole. \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:Interweavings: A Season of Darkness and Light 2023
DESCRIPTION:Cosmologically\, this period of late fall marks the increase in hours of darkness until the winter solstice when the hours of light begin to make a return. Many religions have major holidays during this period. For some\, the period of darkness is not feared but is celebrated as a time of rest and renewal or of waiting in a kind of pregnant pause. Most celebrate the increase in light and see this turning of the season as the welcome return of the energies of rebirth and growth. \n\n\n\nIn this event\, we’ll introduce some of the major holidays in late fall and early winter\, noting their significance in each tradition. We’ll look at Diwali\, Advent\, Hanukkah\, St. Lucia Day\, Winter Solstice\, Christmas\, Epiphany\, Kwanzaa\, New Year’s Eve\, and Lunar New Year. \n\n\n\nCome prepared to share a brief memory of a favorite winter holiday food or tradition from your own background! \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith

SUMMARY:Webinar: East and West Dialogue on Ecological Civilization
DESCRIPTION:Many people around the world\, including civil society\, scientists\, youth\, and policymakers are concerned about the future of our common home and the choices we must make today to ensure that we change our course and stop contributing to our current planetary crises. To do this\, all decision-makers\, including governments\, the private sector\, and individuals must come together to achieve our global goals for sustainability\, justice and peace\, guided by common values. Through this intercultural dialogue\, we will explore what it means to work towards an ecological civilization and what we can learn from the knowledge we have and what we have accomplished so far.   \n\n\n\nIn this webinar Earth Charter will continue the conversation\, started in the 2020 webinar series on Ecological Civilization\, with the following questions:   \n\n\n\n\nWhat is an Ecological Civilization? \n\n\n\nWhat are the possible paths and driving forces to get there? \n\n\n\nWhat are some good examples paving the way towards this vision? \n\n\n\n\nSpeakers \n\n\n\nChen XiaInstitute of PhilosophyChinese Academy of Social Sciences (P.R. DESCRIPTION:Bethlehem Centre\, in collaboration with the Interfaith Center of Arkansas and the Cobb Institute\, is delighted to present a captivating eight-week online series: “Spirituality and Poetry: Exploring the Wisdom of Rumi\, Hafiz\, and Process Theology.”  \n\n\n\nLed by Sophia Said and Jay McDaniel\, this enriching series will delve into the connections between spirituality\, poetry\, and the transformative concepts of process theology. As a paradigm for thinking about spirituality\, we will use the “spiritual alphabet” of Spirituality and Practice: “A” is for attention\, “B” is for beauty\, “C” is for compassion\, etc. We invite you to join us for an hour each week as we embark on a reflective journey through the spiritual alphabet.  \n\n\n\nTogether\, we will explore the timeless verses of Rumi and Hafiz\, two poets who transcend religious boundaries and touch upon the universal essence of the human experience. Through their words\, we will uncover insights and inspirations that can enrich our spiritual lives\, fostering a deeper connection with ourselves\, others\, and the divine. \n\n\n\nIn addition\, the series will delve into the inclusive framework of process theology\, which embraces the ever-evolving nature of spirituality. By integrating the wisdom of the poets and the principles of process theology\, we will embark on a transformative exploration of spirituality\, inviting active participation in the ongoing co-creation of our world. \n\n\n\nThe sessions will take place over eight consecutive weeks\, providing ample time for reflection and integration between each gathering. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the facilitators\, ask questions\, and engage in interactive discussions. SUMMARY:Spirituality and Poetry: Exploring the Wisdom of Rumi\, Hafiz\, and Process Theology
We aim to create a space where diverse perspectives can converge\, fostering a deep appreciation for the power of spirituality\, poetry\, and process theology. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more & register

SUMMARY:Interweavings: Remembering Our Ancestors: Honoring our Beloved Dead 2023
DESCRIPTION:The end of October is marked by many cultures as a sacred time when the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead becomes more porous. Gaelic or Celtic cultures celebrate Samhain and the Christian tradition has honored its dead on All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days. The wonderful animated film “Coco” honors the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead in exuberant color. Join Process & Faith for a special online Interweavings event\, sponsored by the Pagan Path\, that will be a service of remembrance for everyone who has lost or grieved a loved one. Participants may want to have a candle to light and/or to bring a photo of their loved one(s). \n\n\n\nRSVP required to receive ZOOM info. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nrsvp at Process & Faith
