Process Summer Intensive

The 2022 Process Theology Summer Intensive is a 1-week exploration that includes three different adventures in process theology. The first segment (taught by Dr. Davis) explores the philosophical foundations of process thinking. The second segment (taught by Dr. Theodore Walker) explores key dimensions of the relationship between process theology and science. The third segment (taught by Dr. Kling) explores process spirituality as a transreligous path of embodiment, transformation and belonging.

COURSE SCHEDULE

Part I: Philosophical Foundations of Process Theology (Dr. Davis)

What are some of the foundational philosophical ideas at the base of process theology? Part I explores key metaphysical convictions at the heart of Whitehead’s process philosophical vision. These include, but are not limited to historic and thematic dimensions, the primacy of experience, possibility and value, creativity and the God-world relationship.

  • 7/11: Monday (9-11am, 1-3pm, 4-6pm)
  • 7/12: Tuesday (9-11am, 1-3pm)

Part II: Process Theology and Science (Dr. Walker)

What is the relationship between process theology and the sciences? Part II explores the ways in which process theology has engaged key dimensions of scientific concern. These include, but are not limited to, core issues and questions across cosmology, astrobiology, evolutionary biology and psychology.

  • 7/12: Tuesday (4-6pm)
  • 7/13: Wednesday (9-11am, 1-3pm, 4-6pm)
  • 7/14: Thursday (9-11am)

Part III: Process Spirituality and Transformation (Dr. Kling)

What implications does process theology harbor for the individual spiritual or mystical life? Part III explores various resources of process theology as a transformative spiritual path. Topics include but are not limited to lived embodiment, belonging, self-worth and psycho-spiritual wholeness and flourishing.
